Mission Statement:
All students will
be given the opportunity to reach their fullest
potential and to be successful in life. Through
involvement and participation, participating school
corporations will provide a positive, safe, and
supportive environment for students to learn and
achieve. A collaborative partnership among parents,
teachers, staff, and the business community will assume
responsibility for the future success of our students.
ABOUT AREA 18
In
1963, Indiana passed a law which allowed schools to cooperate with each
other in order to provide a cost-effective method for joint delivery of
specialized and expensive vocational/technical programs.
Area 18 Vocational Education (now known as Area 18 Career & Technical
Education) was created in 1982 with Adams Central, Bluffton-Harrison,
South Adams and Southern Wells forming the partnership. North Adams
lined the group in 1988, Jay County in 1994, Northern Wells in 1997, and
Huntington in 1999.
Area
18 Career & Technical Education has gone from an enrollment of only a
few students in 1982 to over 6,400students in the 2008–2009 school
year.
COOPERATIVE DATA
Area 18 covers 1,469 square miles serving a population of more than
121,000 residents working mainly in manufacturing, farming, and service
industries. Of the almost 20,000 students enrolled in the Area 18 K-12
schools, about 6,500 were enrolled in the public high schools and over
6,400 of
them were in Area 18 programs (2008–2009 statistics).
